My thoughts post conversation with Steve Chamberlain

Ken |

I recently sat down with Steve Chamberlain. Steve is the president of International Orthotic Labs. Steve discussed his career evolution through various sales positions and capped off the conversation with a great piece of advice.

"You can only control what you can control. If you focus too much on the things you can't control, or you get too caught up on those, you're not going to be able to focus on what you can control and follow through on your goals."

Something we can all control at all times is our attitude. While a specific situation may be unpleasant and beyond our control, we can control what we think and how we approach the situation.

This notion leans on concepts from mindfulness and trying to be present throughout our life. You will often encounter a situation that is challenging but it is up to you on how you react and manage that situation. Anxiety, fear, anger and other emotions are how we may respond but ultimately the key to navigating a challenging situation is to live in the moment. I highly recommend reading material from Thich Nhat Hanh if you want to explore this concept further.

Next time you are planning a goal or encounter a challenging situation, take a moment to understand what you can control and have the confidence to not worry about what is beyond your control.
